This village is located in the valley of the Bresque, a tributary of the Argens. This fiefdom was successively the property of the Castellanes, the Counts of Provence, then the Grignans, and finally of Admiral Bruni d'Entrecasteaux. The large four-story castle, now private, replaces a fortified construction from the 11th century. The French-style gardens that adorn the front of the south façade were designed by Le Nôtre. On the north façade, an ice-house, loaded during the winter, was used to supply the inhabitants of the village with ice. It was supplied by the frozen water on the meadows bordering the Bresque river and probably by the snow coming from the Bessillons massif.
