At the gateway to the Verdon Regional Natural Park, almost equidistant between Aups to the north and Brignoles to the south, Cotignac is nestled at the foot of a tufa cliff 80 m high and 400 m wide: a natural monument with many caves, which makes it so special. From April to September, its ascent is open to the public: in the gardens of the rock, an old hospice of 1314, disused since 1653, is used to welcome visitors. A ramped staircase then leads to the "balcony", where a terrace with an orientation table awaits you: from the top, the panorama of the terraced hills is breathtaking! And to finish the visit, you can even take a tour of a troglodytic habitat! Below, while strolling through the village and its narrow streets decorated with fountains, lovers of old stones will appreciate the two medieval towers, the remains of the old Castellane castle, the 9th century Saint-Martin chapel, the 12th century Saint-Pierre church, the clock tower and the house of the Prince of Condé, both built in the 15th century, or the Puade gate, the only gate preserved out of the eight that were part of the 16th century ramparts. Finally, take the time to stroll along the Cours Gambetta, the central artery of the village and the scene of the weekly market every Tuesday morning. Lined with plane trees, cafés and restaurants, it has a unique atmosphere.
