The town's name (original in Latin and Provençal) comes from an animal that figures prominently on the town's coat of arms: the snake. It is here that the greatest number of megalithic sites in the region have been identified. Collobrières is famous for its chestnuts and marrons glacés. The chestnut growers sell most of their production in the form of "fruits de bouche": glazed chestnuts, chestnuts in alcohol or candied in syrup, cream, honey, liqueur, jam and chestnut purée. For the last thirty years, the chestnut festival has been held in the town on the last three Sundays of October.
