Legend has it that "on the boat bringing from Italy the body of the knight "Torpes" decapitated by the Romans, there was a rooster and a dog. Despite their hunger, the animals did not touch the body. When the skiff landed on the shores of present-day Saint-Tropez, the rooster flew into the countryside of Cogolin, right in the middle of a field of flax". Hence the "Coq au lin" (rooster with flax) which adorns the municipal coat of arms, the flags and the top of the town hall Cogolin, a typically Provencal village, is nestled at the foot of the Maures mountains and extends to the sea with 2 ports: Les Marines de Cogolin, one of the largest on the French Riviera, and Port Cogolin
