The village was built around the castle, now in ruins, and was administered by various families, the lordships of Bertrand de Châteauvert, Villeneuvois and Flayosc. Then the plague will make all the inhabitants of the region flee. Today the few houses of this tiny village of about a hundred inhabitants are grouped around the church of the Transfiguration, topped by its 17th century bell tower, at the edge of the Sourn valley. With 4 estates in the commune, wine growing is the main agricultural activity in Châteauvert. Since 2016, the village boasts a new center of Contemporary Art.
