The first lord of Carcès was Eldebert de Châteaurenard. Afterwards, the seigneury belonged to Guillaume de Cotignac, then passed into the families of Pontevès, Simiane, Rohan-Soubise and Condé. The castle was privileged to receive Louis XIV and his court in 1660. Destroyed after the Second World War, it has recently been partially restored. With its 100-hectare lake and the six rivers that flow into it, Carcès has become the preferred meeting place for freshwater fishermen, and since 1889, thethird town in France to be lit by electricity. The market is held on Saturday mornings, and is completed by a night market on Thursdays in summer.
