A small village of 230 souls, Artigues is situated in the middle of nature at the bottom of a green hill on which are the remains of the old medieval village. It is in this small village that the oldest fireplaces in Europe were discovered (40,000 years before our era). The prehistoric cave of the Rigabe, discovered in the hill, proves the existence of inhabitants who lived 60,000 years BC. Since 2013, Artigues boasts an organic snail farm: the Escalagau farm raises more than 120,000 large grey snails in perfect harmony with nature.
