Situated at 630 metres above sea level, this ancient fortified village has retained its medieval character. Its narrow streets wind around its 11th century church dedicated to Saint Michael. A beautiful porch dating from the 11th century, where the slides of its portcullis are still visible, an aqueduct, fountains and washhouses give this village a particular charm. The dolmen of Marencq attests to the presence of ancestors for more than four thousand years. For more than 30 years, during the last weekend of June, Ampus has offered a "Balade Gourmande", an original opportunity to discover the village while tasting dishes prepared by its inhabitants.
