Saint-Véran is the highest village in Europe, with a village center at 2,042 m, and one of the most authentic and beautiful mountain villages in the Alps. Labelled "One of the most beautiful villages in France", Saint-Véran is a jewel where, as the motto goes, "The rooster pecks at the stars". It's a magnificent village that needs to be preserved as a living heritage, that is, with all the care and animation that goes to make up the life of a village located "at the top of the mountain, at the end of the world". And to preserve the village's architectural treasures and serene atmosphere, cars are asked to stay in the parking lot (paying in high season) at the bottom of the village. From a stroll through the village streets and a view of the many sundials on the south-facing slopes, to hiking to the peaks on the Italian border, to winter sports on the Queyras' largest ski area, there's something for every family looking forward to an evening around a roaring fire. Come on, let's make our last outing to the Saint-Véran Observatory to enjoy the purest of skies. Saint-Véran, a village where over the centuries man has demonstrated his ability to adapt to an extreme environment, has managed to preserve the riches of its past by protecting them from visitors - Saint-Véran has only been accessible by road for a century - but today gladly reveals them to all those who love the Alps.
