Prefecture of the Hautes-Alpes, located on the Napoleon road (which has become very touristy), Gap is a town on a human scale with over 40,000 inhabitants. The town has been a crossroads for centuries, an important stage on the Roman road that linked Turin to the Rhone valley. Called the "Soft Capital", the capital of the Southern Alps is located in the heart of an authentic country, between Provence and Dauphiné, where life is good. The climate is particularly favourable: 300 days of sunshine per year. Situated at an altitude of 735 m (the highest point of the town is 2,385 m at the Raz de Bec), it is the highest prefecture in France.
