Huriel, a small town of 2,500 inhabitants, is one of the 7 communes in the centre of France. The commune is crossed by the Magieure, a left bank tributary of the Cher. Formerly a walled city, Huriel was once a strategic place for the Bourbons who used it for military purposes. The vineyards that made the town rich were ravaged by phylloxera at the end of the 19th century. The few hectares that remain today are part of the Montluçonnais vineyards. Huriel has two historical monuments: the dungeon of the Toque and the church Notre-Dame, both dating from the 12th century and classified as historical monuments.
