13 km west of Aix, Ventabren is perched on its steep rock. Narrow staircase streets, old houses close to each other, Queen Jeanne's castle, old wash houses, windmill, oil mill, bories, bread oven, period ice-house make this charming inhabited village a very pleasant place to visit. Don't forget to take a look at the village church to admire its 15th century painting from the Avignon school. Then go to the Roquefavour aqueduct, which is worth a detour, to admire its 84 m high and its three rows of arcades: it is a real masterpiece inaugurated after six years of work, on 19 December 1847, to supply the city of Marseille with water from the Arc valley through which it runs.
