15th century castle overlooking the Rhône, with a massive silhouette and crenellated towers, with military and even police origins

It is one of the most beautiful fortresses in France, and also one of the most impressive. From the top of its crenellated towers, the castle of King René, built in the first half of the 15th century, dominates the Rhône. With its massive, almost crushing silhouette, the building does not deny its military and even police origins, since it was, from the outset, a place of detention for civil and military prisoners, then a house of arrest and correction. During the Revolution, Robespierre's supporters were executed here.

IL ILLUSTRE LA LEGENDE DE SAINTE MARTHE ET DE LA TARASQUE. VISITE INCONTOURNABLE POUR APPREHENDER LES US ET COUTUMES, LES ANECDOCTES ET L'HISTOIRE RICHE DE CE LIEU.

Le château de Tarascon fait face à celui de Beaucaire de part et d'autre du Rhône. Il est très bien conservé et il est épuré de meubles. La visite qui nous fait parcourir les différentes salles est agréable. A mi-parcours nous arrivons sur la plateforme au sommet du château d’où nous avons une belle vue sur la ville et les environs. J'ai beaucoup aimé cette visite. N'hésitez pas.
