LA FONTAINE CANTINI
A Carrara marble fountain, 25 meters high, having the particularity to be aligned with the Porte d'Aix
Place Castellane is a typical example of the place you pass through almost every day without stopping, without looking up and without taking the time to admire its historical heritage. In its centre, a colossal fountain from the early 20th century, the work of sculptor André Alla, commissioned by a well-known marble maker from Marseille, Jules Cantini. It is the name of the latter that this fountain will take. 25 metres high and entirely made of Carrara marble, this masterpiece symbolizes, through its allegories, the three Provençal rivers (the Durance, the Rhône, the Gardon) as well as the Mediterranean Sea. The fountain has the particularity of being aligned with the Porte d'Aix.
