Located a few kilometres from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Maillane is mainly known as the birthplace of Frédéric Mistral. The poet, Nobel Prize laureate in Literature in 1904 and ardent defender of the Provençal language, spent his entire life. Even today, the inhabitants are committed to perpetuating this culture by organizing, in particular, many traditional festivals.
