Gréasque is a village especially known by the coal industry. If the first exploitations go back to 1650, it is in the XIXth century that they developed notably by the granting of concessions. In 1830, the Saint-Jacques well was sunk, the first vertical well of great depth, the extraction of coal and the pumping of water could then be done by steam. The extracted coal is used for the development of Marseille. But it is with the construction of the Hély d'Oissel well (1919-1962) that the village knows its hour of industrial glory. Today it has been transformed into a mining museum, to remind us of the very mining world of Provence.
