Unmistakable for its bold aesthetic, Luma Arles is a cultural center that finances and supports artists' projects.
Luma Arles is a cultural center that finances and supports artists' projects, in relation to the environment, human rights, culture and education. Concretely, this structure, imagined and launched by Maja Hoffman in 2013, allows innovative artists to present commissioned works, in different locations in the city of Arles. Luma Arles is built around six restored industrial buildings, an art resource center and gardens, but also and above all an incredible modern building designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry, to whom we owe, for example, the design of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao or the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris. In this building, whose walls made of 10,000 stainless steel bricks reflect the blue sky of Provence, a multitude of activities take place around photography and visual arts in general: virtual reality experiences, installations, exhibitions... It is a pleasure to get lost in this labyrinth where each door reveals a new surprise: moving ceilings, breathtaking views of the city, but also a giant slide that will delight children and adults! All the virtuosity of the architect is expressed, as well as the ingenuity and the thirst for sharing of the programmers. You can also stroll through the gardens, and stop at one of the many cafés and restaurants around and inside the Foundation, or pass by the skate park with its graphic design. A fascinating place, not to be missed.
Tout come d'autres réalisations modernes, il faudra s'habituer.
