ESCOFFIER MUSEUM
Musée Escoffier, retracing the career of the great master, with personal objects and documents relating to the culinary arts
Housed in the birthplace of Auguste Escoffier (1846-1935), an authentic 18th-century Provencal house with a traditional yellow façade and lavender-blue shutters, this museum traces the career of this great master. France's only museum of culinary art was created in 1966 by the illustrious chef's loyal followers. It was recently awarded the "Maisons des illustres" label.
This museum-foundation presents its collections over 300m2 in a charming Provencal-style setting. Ten exhibition rooms explain part of the history and evolution of cooking through a wealth of objects, antique furniture and period utensils, as well as highlighting the great chefs who have left their mark on French cuisine.
To bring your discovery to life, opt for a guided tour lasting around an hour.
During the tour, you'll discover some of the personal objects of the "King of cooks and cook to kings", documents relating to the culinary art through the ages, and menus of famous meals. Auguste Escoffier is notably the creator of Peach Melba, which is available for tasting at the museum from June to September.
Ongoing activities are organized for children, with a game booklet that makes the visit fun and entertaining, with numerous riddles, charades and rebus to solve. There's also a room dedicated to children, where they can learn about French expressions and culinary vocabulary, as well as the theme of legumes.
Les Menus, décorations en chocolat, le Bocuse d'Or et la délicieuse pêche Melba offerte à la sortie au moment de notre visite.
