Calogero (Claude) Aïello, born in Italy into a family of potters, moved to Vallauris in 1974 and founded a workshop for functional and decorative pottery. Collaborating with young designers to enhance local craft heritage, he earned the nickname of "designer ceramist". His meeting with Ronan Bouroullec marked a turning point, leading to collaborations with Laurent Nicolas and Lehanneur. His workshop has been awarded the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" label.
