Travel Guide Saint-Laurent-Du-Var

Formerly the natural border of the County of Nice until 1860, the town was the border post between France and the Kingdom of Sardinia. The Var was often forded when the water level was low. The wooden bridge over the river was often washed away or demolished during the wars. It was only after 1860 that a stone bridge was built, allowing the road and railroad to cross side by side. Much of the town was rebuilt after the bombings of the Second World War, but many of the old town's monuments remain, such as the Romanesque-Provençal church of Place Castillon, rebuilt in the 12th century and remodeled in the 16th, and its characteristic old streets.While a visit to the old town is a must, Saint-Laurent-du-Var also boasts a perfectly landscaped coastline, like all Côte d'Azur seaside towns. Between the harbor esplanade and the pleasant promenade des Flots bleus, the number of restaurants and bars is impressive. The coastline is the town's main hub of activity, with its long sandy beach mixed with small pebbles and, at the mouth of the Var, the huge Cap 3000 shopping center, renovated to open up to the Mediterranean.
