The known origin of Peillon goes back to the year 1150. Its architecture has been completely preserved with its high houses tightly packed together, its built arcades, its alleys and staircases connected by narrow vaulted passages. The village depended on the consular administration of Peille from which it separated in 1235. An important brotherhood of White Penitents settled in 1661 in the 15th century chapel decorated around 1495 by Canavesio. Today the commune is made up of several hamlets: Borghéas, Châteauvieux, les Novaines and Sainte-Thècle whose springs were tapped in 1869 to supply the city of Nice.
