The oldest church in the city of Nice, with a magnificent baroque decor, with altars, woodwork and balustrades
The building, formerly dedicated to the apostle St. James, is known in the town as the church of St. Rita de Cascia, the "saint of impossible causes and hopeless cases". It is one of the town's oldest churches, first recorded around the year 900. Completely restructured in the 17th century, it boasts a magnificent Baroque décor, with altars and balustrades finely decorated with faux-marble inlays, period woodwork, gilding and trompe-l'oeil paintings. The rectangular nave ends in a semicircular choir adorned with six chapels. Near the sacristy, a small door leads to the oratory of Saint Rita, where a fresco recounts various episodes in the saint's life. A small notebook is available for writing down your prayer intentions.
