Inhabited by the Ligurians, the region was conquered by Augustus in the 1st century BC. The first inhabitants were probably located around the site of La Menour, below the current village, for defensive reasons, then in the 12th century farmers settled on the village site. In 1500, the village became a parish under the name of Saint-Bernard: with the attachment of the county of Nice to France in 1860, the region became French. At the end of the 19th century, the creation of more important roads transformed it into a small summer resort.
