The small village of La Gaude, founded by the Ligurians, spent four centuries of peace under Roman administration, of which the famous via Aurelia remains today. Wheat, oil, figs, hemp, vines and, more recently, orange trees, carnations and roses were grown here. But it is the establishment of the IBM company in the 1960s that made its reputation and was the source of its growth and development Today, the attraction of the village lies in its narrow streets, its fountains, its old ovens and its religious monuments. Many walks also pass by the Roman roads. Don't miss the eco-museum of Provence, a small museum very nice to visit, but especially very complete in living species and hyper fun! The biotope of each resident is reproduced identically. The goal is eminently educational to make the species known and to make the public aware of their ecological role and the need to protect them For the record, in 1941, Marcel Pagnol and his wife Josette acquired the Domaine de l'Étoile, a horticultural farm producing carnations: he was happy there but Josette was bored. Pagnol then found his wife a role in La Belle et la Bête by his friend Cocteau. She thus had to go to Paris to film, where she found her former loves and separated from the writer. In 1962, Pagnol and Jacqueline Bouvier - who played the role of Manon des Sources in 1952 - moved to Domaine de l'Étoile. Today, this peaceful place is transformed into a beautiful and prestigious hotel-restaurant.
