La Brigue is situated at 770 m, on the banks of the Levenza, a tributary of the Roya. Once a hunting area for King Victor Emmanuel, this part of the territory was annexed to France in 1947. Rich commune populated by merchants and shepherds whose history is intertwined with that of the powerful lords of Lascaris, it has an architectural heritage composed of 7 buildings classified as historical monuments. The medieval heart of the village has the most beautiful collection of armorial or historiated lintels from the middle of the 15th century to the present day, made from black schist once mined in the region or from green stone from Tende.
