Over the centuries, the village of Guillaumes has often changed sovereigns. It has been conquered, plundered, burned, dismantled and held to ransom many times. It is only since 1860 that the village has found a lasting peace and a relative prosperity. Take a walk in the old center, mainly in the rue Bérenger with its three doors and in the rue du Viguier where you will find the maison du Roy, the residence of the military governor, an old walnut oil mill, the maison Barety. The Saint-Etienne church, of Lombard origin, built in the 12th century, fortified and massive with very narrow windows, was called to play a defensive role
