This village perched above Menton owes its name to the stream that flows through it. Gorbio appeared at the end of the High Middle Ages (10th century), with populations taking refuge on the heights to avoid Saracen incursions. From the 12th century onwards, the village was a fiefdom under the control of the Counts of Ventimiglia, then, in 1388, Gorbio, like the rest of the county of Nice, became part of Savoy and then of France in 1860. At the end of the 19th century, the village began to benefit from the tourism that was developing in Menton and Roquebrune, an evolution that continues today.Warm and lively all year round, Gorbio has kept its authentic soul. The large facade of the Château des Comtes de Malaussène gives it the appearance of a real eagle's nest. In the heart of the village is the Orne, a majestic tree that has become the pride of the inhabitants.
