Situated at the crossroads of major communication routes, from Bourges to Autun, and from Decize to Roanne via the Besbre valley, the town has been settled for a very long time. In the 19th century, the town developed commercially and agriculturally, thanks to the canal and the railroad, with important fairs. Then, with the closure of the Bert mines and the Great War, the population declined. Around 1920, the installation of a foundry in Sept-Fons revived the local economy. An attractive town, close to the famous Le Pal amusement park, one of the Top 5 most visited in France.
