It's a small village of 110 inhabitants, nestled on a slope in the heart of a lush vegetation of oaks, pines and firs. Two-thirds of the village is forested. In other words, Conségudes is a haven of peace in the middle of nature, and a veritable paradise for hikers... The commune is bounded to the north by the Estéron valley, renowned for its swimming and canyoning sites. The village itself backs onto Mont St-Paul, facing the forested slopes of the Cheiron. From the square, a panoramic view of the massif. And a pretty fountain, adorned with lions' heads, makes its refreshing murmur. The town hall boasts a bell tower topped by a campanile. Some houses have been restored, with ochre rendering and coloured shutters, while others retain the austerity of exposed stonework. The Sainte-Marguerite chapel and the old communal oven can be found along the way. A few vaulted passageways recall the village's medieval past. The village is criss-crossed from bottom to top by staircase lanes. You'll need good legs to make your way through Conségudes, but it's a charming walk. The most courageous can climb up to the Saint-Paul chapel, which offers a magnificent view over the Estéron valley. A little history. Conségudes (Consécuta) was founded by the Knights Templar in 1159. It was a fortified place, as 12th-century writings record the presence of the Castrum de Conségudis. A church was mentioned as early as 1351. In 1388, the village is mentioned again, but not the castle, which would have disappeared by then. The territory was then attached to that of Les Ferres, 5 km away. At that time, Conségudes was part of the Laugier seigneury. It was around the 17th century that a new village came into being, with the creation of a new church dedicated to Saint Georges, and mentioned in 1715. Throughout the 18th century, however, the Conségudes church was dependent on the Les Ferres church.
