Ecomuseum dedicated to the culture of the olive tree, the history and culture of the plant, the manufacture of its oil, tasting on site
This eco-museum, located in a 20th century lime kiln, is a place where limestone was transformed into quicklime. Since 2006, the place is dedicated to the living culture of the olive tree, which offers both a museum and a tasting. It is worth a visit for those who want to know everything about the history and cultivation of the olive tree in this area and the manufacture of its oil. Discover the use of the oil over the centuries: from fuel to soap making, including the pruning of the tree... Thanks to a studied scenography which mixes videos, showcases presenting rare and unusual objects and the exhibition of old machines, you will discover the history and the mythology of the olive tree in Provence and the Mediterranean. A visit that also appeals to children, with quizzes adapted to each age to make the visit even more fun. The adjoining store is a delicatessen with products from Maison Bremond 1830, the Biscuiterie de Forcalquier and the famous Confiserie du Roy René in Aix-en-Provence. An ice cream parlour is also available from Easter to September and events are held regularly (cooking classes, Christmas market, conferences, etc.). Since 2020, Fanfy and Véro welcome you to the restaurant Le Petit Ribier which offers a bistro cuisine of fresh and local products, fair and inventive, built on the quality of local products and the attachment to its soil. In summer, you will appreciate the pretty shaded terrace of the restaurant.
