Valensole is a large town built in the shape of an amphitheatre in the 8th century BC. Its territory covers 12,700 hectares, making it one of the largest communes in France. 9 fountains and wash-houses reflect in their waters the imposing edifice of Sainte-Blaise, the village church, attesting to the past power of Cluny. This vast land, situated between the Durance and Verdon rivers, is also home to olive trees, wheat and honey. It is in this unique setting that Giono chose to set some of his works, a veritable palette of tender colors between heaven and earth, which we hardly dare touch for fear of erasing them!
