The commune of Prads-Haute-Bléone covers 16,500 hectares and is composed of 9 hamlets whose altitude varies from 800 to 1,450 metres. It results from the successive mergers of the communes of Prads and Blégiers in 1978 and Mariaud in 1973. It is the typical commune of the high valleys of the Southern Alps, it benefits from a very sunny climate, dry cold, and snow from about 1 800 meters. It was sadly known on March 24, 2015, during the crash of the Airbus A320, whose co-pilot has voluntarily precipitated the plane in the mountains on the territory of the town, involving all the passengers and crew in its fall.
