Inhabited since the Gallo-Roman period, the lands of La Javie are, in the 8th century, under the yoke of the abbey Saint-Victor of Marseille. Over time, La Javie managed to emancipate itself from this senior domination, or to be under its control. At the time of the French Revolution, the village became partisan, a patriotic society with Jacobin tendencies being created. Renowned for its lamb raised in the mountain pastures, the tardon, its apples and pears of old varieties, which have been the subject of fairs since the Middle Ages, this county town has managed to preserve a traditional village structure with its shops and its activities.
