For history, the commune will remain that of the Arnaud brothers, i.e. the men who were at the origin of the exodus of the inhabitants of Ubaye in the 19th century. Jacques Arnaud was the first to leave and settle in Louisiana - the city he founded, Arnaudville, is twinned with Jausiers. His brother settled in Mexico City and became a successful cloth merchant. He was joined by his two brothers and the family made a real fortune: it was their boastful return as "nabobs" - the uncles of America, that is! - which aroused the enthusiasm of the young people of Ubaye, eager to conquer in their turn a part of the New World. It is therefore quite natural to find numerous references to the Arnaud brothers throughout the valley, and Jausiers is rightly proud of this origin. There are several "Mexican houses" including the unavoidable Magnans manor house with its baroque architecture reminiscent of a castle of Louis II of Bavaria. Don't miss the Valley Museum either, whose building was nicely renovated in 2018. It tells the story of the different relationships between man and the landscape with water as a common thread through several exhibits, including the risks taken by inhabitants who chose to settle near the river in order to take advantage of its life force. A very interesting and instructive visit. In addition to the museum of the valley, you will be able to see with interest the Saint-Nicolas-de-Myre church, nicely decorated in the baroque style, and for the gourmets, a detour to the Maison des Produits de Pays is a must
