Located just 4 km from Barcelonnette, this charming little resort in the Ubaye valley was founded in 1934 with the creation of the first ski lift, the longest of its time. Afterwards, we owe its evolution to Honoré Couttolenc, who considerably enlarged the ski area during the years 1960 to 1980. However and fortunately, the resort has kept its family character thanks to a private operation: it is also one of the last private French ski resorts. Its development is however less marked than for the competing resorts. It is divided between two locations: the Sauze and the Super-Sauze, respectively located at 1 400 and 1 700 meters of altitude. Labelled Famille Plus Montagne and P'tits Montagnards, its atmosphere is very friendly. Athletes have a permanent competition and training stadium, located near the Brec piste (on the Super-Sauze snow front), famous for its technical qualities. Le Sauze and Super-Sauze is also a green resort which is naturally committed to the well-being of its visitors by respecting a rigorous charter. Between the village and the ski area, the resort stretches to an altitude of 2,450 m. In the heart of the valleys, the Brec and Fours areas remain the favourite slopes for great skiers, while on the Alp side, the gentle slopes make all amateur skiers happy. Good moments of relaxation are in store for mountain lovers, in summer and winter.
