After crossing a narrow and deep gorge, you enter the large area of Bayons. On July 26, 1492, a mudslide swept away half the village, killing livestock and villagers in its path and sterilizing the land. Bayons recovered, however, and in 1777, the community bought back the seigneurial rights for the then enormous sum of 60,000 pounds. What a life force! The best testimony of this courageous past, of the wealth and importance of the village, of its faith too, is the church of Notre-Dame, dating from the 11th century, which offers it to you. Large and majestic, it has been classified as a historical monument since 1891
