The history of Chouvigny is linked above all to its feudal castle. Set on a rocky spur overlooking the valley, it commands the passage through the gorges. Built in 1250 by Guillaume I de Chauvigny, it subsequently belonged to a number of prominent families, including the La Fayette family. The parish church was built in 1760 on top of an earlier building that served as the château's chapel. The Chouvigny gorges stretch for 20 kilometers, from Chouvigny to Lisseuil. Particularly steep up to the Menat bridge, they can be explored along a winding, verdant road that offers numerous viewpoints over the river.
