Saint-Martin-la-Pallu is a new commune comprising Blaslay, Charrais, Chéneché, Varennes and Vendeuvre-du-Poitou. It takes its name from the river Pallu. Vendeuvre is known for its fertile soil, making it an important market-gardening village. Philosopher Michel Foucault was a native of the village and is buried here in the cemetery. The area boasts several châteaux: des sept tours, des Roches, de Bonnivet, d'Etables, de Chézeaux... and several churches, including Saint-Aventin. The Tours Mirandes site is home to the remains of a Roman city built in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. Troglodytic sites are also worth a visit.
