The origin of the name Scorbé (today's village) dates back to Gallo-Roman times (1st century), while Clairvaux was an important seigneury linked to the county of Anjou, mentioned as early as the 11th century. In the 18th century, the two communes were united to form a single toponym. The grain market, the château des Robinières, the château du Haut-Clairvaux and its chapel are all well worth a visit. After a visit to the museums, don't hesitate to sample a local beer at Brasserie Clairvaloise. And don't forget to include Champis Clairvalois, from the local tuffeau cellars, in your basket at the Tuesday morning market!
