To the northwest of Civray, the two names of Saint-Romain-en-Charroux have been merged into one with the Communauté des communes du Civraisien en Poitou. The name of the village comes from the name of the eponymous saint of the 3rd century and from the neighboring commune of Charroux. It is a rural village nestled between fields and plains where poultry, cattle and goats are raised. The latter produce milk which is used to make the AOC "Chabichou du Poitou" cheese, an emblematic product of the Poitou region. Legendary cheese, undisputed star of the region whose origins date back to the 8th century with the presence of some Saracen families!
