In the 4th century, Saint Martin, bishop of Tours, took part in the evangelization of the region. The commune's name is said to evoke this figure, as well as plain for plain. Pleumartin's remarkable buildings include a covered market, the monumental Potet pump (1851), the Trinité church (18p98), the town hall, the Trianon-style Château de Pleumartin (not open to visitors), the 12th-century Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens church in Crémille, the Saint-Sennery pond (fishing pond, picnic area) and its discovery trail. Other features (bread oven, lime kiln, etc.) are also part of its history. Its forest offers pleasant hiking and bird-watching.
