The small commune south of Poitiers has had the spotlight stolen from it. Although history records that in 1356, the Hundred Years' War took a nasty turn for France with the capture of King John the Good by the Prince of Wales during the Battle of Poitiers, it's actually the Battle of Nouaillé-Maupertuis that's more accurate! In June, orchestrated by the Nouaillé 1356 association, a superb night-time show plunges visitors into the heart of life in the 14th century. The medieval immersion continues with a visit to the abbey and its garden, or at the festival in July! The market is held every Friday from 4pm to 6pm.
