Here, you can see far ahead: at the center of a vast plain, Neuville-de-Poitou exudes the discreet charm of a wine-growing capital. The vineyards of Haut-Poitou date back to at least 276 A.D., and were highly reputed in the 12th century. Despite the devastation wrought by various wars and insect-borne diseases, the vines have now reclaimed the land and production has expanded. The town, located in the heart of the Haut-Poitou appellation zone, is welcoming and unostentatious. The Huilerie de Neuville-de-Poitou, the annual jazz festival (in July) and the motoball team all contribute to the town's reputation.
