The medieval house plongeant its walls in the Gartempe, next to a former ford, is named «Old Palace», because in the th century the Premier (power of justice) set up there, not far from the remains of the monastery of the Grandmontains, which only remains a so-called «chapel des Grandmontains». The priory of the Grandmontains is located in the city in the th century.
