Its name alone is an invitation to visit: "mire beau". And you can see far, as Mirebeau stands on a tufa hill overlooking plains and vast expanses. A legendary fortress since the Middle Ages - the treasure of Eleanor of Aquitaine is said to be buried here - it still preserves traces of the keep, known as "la cuve d'Anjou", built by Count Foulques Nerra. Acquired by Cardinal de Richelieu in 1628, the castle's stones were used to build the town of Richelieu.
