The commune owes its name to Lucius, its former Roman owner. The area is also renowned for its archaeology, with no fewer than twelve sites excavated since 1836 attesting to the area's occupation since prehistoric times. The main sites are the Grotte de La Marche, discovered in 1937, and the Grotte des Fadets, discovered in 1865. The Musée de la Préhistoire, housed in La Sabline, organizes regular tours. As for castles... there was only one here, built in the 12th century, of which very little remains today. Finally, you can't leave Lussac-les-Châteaux without taking a tour of the lake where its ruins are immersed.
