Although traces of settlement date back to the 4th century, the village owes its name to a lord who built the 12th-century fortress nestling on a small island. Notre-Dame-de-Saint-Paixent, a Romanesque church dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries, is unusual in that the former castle's keep has been added as a bell tower. From the viaduct overlooking the Vienne River, the panorama is breathtaking. At 40 meters above ground, this former railway line (built in 1882) linking Saint-Saviol to Le Blanc, offers an unobstructed view over the valley. Here, sport and nature go hand in hand: canoeing, water-skiing, accrobranche, horse-riding, donkey-riding, mountain biking, electric scooters...
