Latiliacus Super Fluvium Alsantia. No, this is not the name of a fierce gladiator, but that of Latillé, in the 10th century. (Latiliacus on the Auxances river). The city belonged then to an important family, called the Latilius. Then this name evolved, changing to Petrus Lateleio (the rock of Lateleio), then Latilliacum, before passing, in the XIIIth century, by Latilhe, Lateilhe in 1496 and Latillé in 1520. The inhabitants of Latillé are called the Latillaquois, and do not really feel the need to change the name of their small town.
