The two rivers, La Clouère and La Belle, as well as the rocky plateau where the fortified castle stands, were decisive factors for human settlement. The town's coat of arms evokes two important components of the town: a fortress symbolizing the châtellenie and a cow evoking the cattle fairs. These have been held since the Middle Ages, and still take place twice a month. Also worth seeing: the Renaissance house known as the Hôtel des Trois Marchands, the Maison Audin, a naive work of art, the logis de La Briauderie, the Notre-Dame church, the Halles, the Agrément wash-house... Outside, enjoy the Verneuil lake.
