Visit the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, to admire its remarkable stained glass windows, the bas-reliefs of the high altar
Consecrated in 1468, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church is in Gothic style. Very bright, it has some remarkable stained glass windows. At the chevet of the church, a large 19th century stained glass window represents the baptism of Jesus in the waters of the Jordan River. It will also be necessary to detail the bas-reliefs of the main altar evoking the life of Saint John the Baptist until his tragic end, his decapitation for having denounced the misconduct of King Herod. Finally, one of the chapels should not miss a Virgin and Child dated from the Renaissance and designed by Germain Pilon.

Eglise Saint-Jean-Baptiste 86100 Châtellerault
L’Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste est une très belle église située sur le boulevard Blossac, à Châtellerault. Cette église possède un mobilier magnifique, tels que le maître-autel et ses splendides bas-reliefs évoquant la vie de Saint Jean-Baptiste, mais également des chapiteaux du chœur ornés d'animaux réels ou fantastiques. C'est cependant le grand vitrail du XIXe siècle représentant le baptême de Jésus dans les eaux du Jourdain qui m'a laissé sans voix, tellement il est exceptionnel. Cette église mérite largement la visite.
